Grandma Rita's Soft Butter Rolls Recipe

Ingredients: ¾ cup milk, ¼ cup butter, ¼ cup white sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 4 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast, 1 teaspoon white sugar, ½ cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C), 3 ½ cups bread flour, divided, or as needed, 1 egg, lightly beaten, 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, or more as needed, for dusting.

Transfer milk into a glass 2-cup measuring cup and zap in the microwave for approximately a minute, or until it begins to boil and bubble up the sides. To the scalded milk, add butter, 1/4 cup sugar, and salt; let cool until the temperature drops to less than 110 degrees Fahrenheit (45 degrees Celsius). In a large dish,

dissolve the yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in warm water. Allow it stand for about ten minutes, or until the yeast softens and starts to produce a creamy froth. Add the egg and two cups of bread flour to the yeast mixture after adding the milk mixture. Using a

wooden spoon, stir the mixture until it's smooth. Pour in the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition, until the dough is slightly sticky but still smooth. Place the dough onto a piece of waxed paper that has been

sprinkled with flour. Gently work the dough together to form it into a ball. Turn the dough to coat it in a big bowl that has been gently greased. For about half an hour, let the dough rise in a warm location covered with a towel. Use parchment paper to line a baking sheet. Split the dough

into thirds. Divide the thirds into six equal-sized balls and place them on the baking sheet that has been prepared. To allow balls to rise for a further thirty minutes, cover with a cloth. Set oven temperature to 350 F (175 C).  Bake for about 15 minutes in a preheated oven, or until browned.
